Appraisals & Valuations
Impartial Valuations
Independent art valuations
A valuation is only as trustworthy as the independence of the appraiser. Many valuation services are offered by galleries, dealers, and auction houses, all of which have a financial interest in the outcome. An inflated insurance valuation results in higher premiums. An estate valuation favouring a seller leads to higher sale fees.
Zurani appraisals are independent by design. We have no relationships that create financial incentives to inflate or deflate a valuation. Our only obligation is accuracy.
Insurance Valuations
Insurance valuations
Art insurance policies are only effective when coverage reflects current market values. Many collectors are significantly underinsured, holding works that have appreciated substantially since their last valuation, covered by policies that will not pay out at replacement cost.
We provide up-to-date market valuations accepted by leading insurers globally, with full documentation and condition reports for each piece.
Estate Planning & Tax
Estate and inheritance art valuations
Art within an estate presents unique challenges. Valuations can be complex to establish, markets are illiquid, and tax treatment varies by jurisdiction. We provide valuations for estate planning, inheritance tax, charitable donation, and gift tax, working in close coordination with lawyers, accountants, and estate administrators.
Our valuations are produced in accordance with relevant regional standards.
Legal Proceedings
Legal and expert witness art appraisals
Divorce settlements, partnership disputes, bankruptcy proceedings, and insurance claims often require independent expert valuations that can stand up to legal scrutiny. We provide appraisals and, where necessary, expert witness testimony, delivered with the rigour and documentation that legal processes demand.
Financial Reporting
Compliant valuations for institutional use.
Family offices, trusts, foundations and institutional collectors increasingly demand art valuations that comply with audit and regulatory standards. We offer valuations prepared in accordance with relevant financial reporting standards, including IFRS and local regulations, supported by comprehensive working documentation.
The Appraisal Process
Our appraisal methodology
Every appraisal follows a consistent, thorough process. Works are examined in person whenever possible, including a full condition assessment. Market research is undertaken using auction records, private sale data, and gallery pricing. Values are supported by comparable evidence and presented in a detailed written report.
Accurate, independent valuation is the foundation of every sound decision. We’d be glad to discuss your requirements.
